Nigel Harper

Nigel by SamNigel took the plunge into professional photography on January 1st 1988 (to be precise). Beginning as an amateur photographer and movie-maker, the many competitions he won in the photographic press made his future path clear. Nearly 28 years later he has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share: a treasure-trove of information and advice. Nigel is exercising his craft every day, and his love of new technology ensures that his knowledge is bang up-to-date.

Nigel´s speciality is wedding, portrait and landscape photography. He particularly likes to produce short movies incorporating video clips, stills and time-lapse.

Nigel is very familiar with the locations that we visit along the Silver Coast of Portugal. Since falling in love with Portugal in 2006, he has been a regular visitor, staying in his apartment by the Lagoa d´Obidos.

Nigel is the recipient of many national awards with Fuji, Kodak, The Master Photographers Association and the British Institute of Professional Photographers. He has also lectured extensively throughout the UK and overseas. Visit Nigel´s site:

What People Are Saying:

×  “I really enjoyed the course and would recommend it. Good friendly people who mixed well, lovely weather and interesting, photogenic, locations. The tutor Nigel is a good enthusiastic communicator and an experienced photographer who clearly knows his stuff. The hotel was at a good location in Sao Martinho do Porto and the town is easy and comfortable to walk around. We visited beautiful locations, particularly Obidos, which was worth a full day visit. The meals were relaxed, with good food and conversation. – Derek, Photography Holiday, April 2016.
×  “Thank you for providing a great course! I thoroughly enjoyed the course and having the opportunity to be out taking photographs with the experienced tutor, Nigel. We visited some great locations, it was a lovely group of people and it was good to spend time together over the meals. I have already recommended the course to a friend. I am definitely interested in doing a follow-up course with you. – Sharon, Photography Holiday, April 2016.
×  “I have just spent an enjoyable 5 days (6 nights) with Kit and Samantha Jennings at their home, Casa Oasis, just outside Sao Martinho do Porto. I was on a Photographic holiday with tutor Nigel Harper, a professional photographer from UK. We were a small group, with the participants staying at Casa Oasis which has a charming cottage and spacious studio in a lovely rustic setting with far reaching inland views and just 3km from the beautiful sheltered sandy bay and waterfront of Sao Martinho. The 5 days were a good mix of tuition at the studio with expeditions out to surrounding towns where we could try out what we had learnt with help and encouragement from Nigel, who was a charming and enthusiastic tutor. There was also time out when we could do our own exploring and photography as we wished. Kit and Samantha were super hosts who went to great lengths to ensure that everyone was happy and nothing was too much trouble. Samantha provided several delicious meals and we were also treated to several meals out. Her bubbly and extrovert personality made for some great laughs and added a definite sparkle to the whole stay. A great time all round. – Fran, Photography Holiday, Sept 2015.
